Hello ... Welcome to Installation Central !

Thank you for your interest, if you have a few minutes, here's a little story about myself and what Installation Central is really all about.

It's a good read, I think you may find mildly entertaining, I know you'll find it informative!

Well, lets get aquainted shall we .. and let me introduce myself.

The Man

My name is Murray E. Cawston, born and raised in Stratford, On. enjoying an average Canadian middle class life.

My Dad was a colourful character with personal mottos like, "If you don't got the right part, make it yourself" and "It's easier to keep a good reputation than it is to get rid of a bad one"!  Dad introduced me at an early age to things like auto mechanics & body work, home repair and much more.  His fabrication skills and true "do it yourselfer" atitude, gave me the chance as you can imagine to get some, "good old fashion, get your hands dirty experience" in things from roofing to foundation repair...

... and just about everything in between including sewing !

Mom showed and taught me the real important stuff like, " Think for yourself, nobody is going to your homework for you young man " and the concepts of fair play, respect, and responsibility ... as in " Didn't I ask you to do that, that was your responsibility" and that there were consequences for my actions ...     (my allowance did come from her purse after all )!

... and one of the most important things in life, " How to sleep well with good conscience", by doing the right thing!

Treat people right, be responsible, act with honesty and honour in everything you do, try your best and you will like the things you do"!

I thank them both so much for the knowledge the have passed to me!

Knowledge that helped me graduate from the "School of Hard Knocks" into the " University of Life " where I still currently pursue my degree in Humanity.

During this time I met and married my wonderful wife. In 1993 we purchased a home in London and along with our two lovely daughters moved there and have raised our family and enjoyed life since.

For more than thirty five years now my pursuits and interests have kept me involved in the Construction Industry in one way or another. In that time I gathered knowledge and skills in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, sheet metal and concrete work, interior decorating and landscaping.

In 1989, I procured employment with Beam of Canada as a corporate Installer.

Beam introduced me to the finer workings of the Central Vacuum System, proper application, installation, service and maintenance among other things.  Over the course of the next few years I combined my existing knowledge and skills with the training and support of Beam to hone my abilities as an installer.Providing me with the opportunity  of working on a vast array of jobs from Toronto to Windsor, in all aspects of application residential, commercial and industrial.

Installing systems in homes of all kinds from "Log Cabins"

  to "Million Dollar Mansions",

I have enjoyed working with general contractors and home builders in new construction to individual home owners with existing finished homes, some more than 100 years old.

My time at Beam also gave me the experience of servicing and repairing existing vac systems of all kinds and installing commercial applications in both, "PVC" and "Metal Tube Systems" for things as normal as cleaning an office or retail space, to specialized uses such as helping to  maintain a "clean room"       environment.

The experience was invaluable and allowed me to develop a "keen nac for the install" and a reputation as one of the company's finest installers.  Our relationship prospered till in 1993  - 94 when terms like corporate sale & restructure, downsizing and outsourcing ended my employment with Beam.

Seeing the void that opened and the need that arose I started Installation Central, a small company based in London, On.,  that offers expert service to the central vacuum market in Southwestern Ontario. My services have been used by individuals and vacuum dealers since then. A reputation for quality workmanship and making the seemingly impossible, possible has meant that " word of mouth " was the only advertising or marketing I used to keep me as busy as I wanted.

Thousands of sucsessful installs and happy vacuumers later here we are!

The Method

The experience has helped me develop a method of installation that allows me to come to your home or building, survey the environment and design a system that will maximize its utility while minimizing the costs and fuss involved.

Maintaining a level of quality and performance set by an industry leader like Beam of Canada.

Operating under principles like, "treat it like it's yours", "less is better" and "be invisible" benifit the customer greatly.

Let me elaborate a bit, " treat it like it's yours "

or maybe more accurate ... treat it like a job for your Aunt Lucy, your Moms sister,

the one who will have no trouble letting all the ladies at the salon know how much she loves her new vacuum system and what an excellent job you did, or how much of a putz her sister's son is!

This way of thinking promotes a level of quality, attention to detail, respect for the work environment and the kind of pride in workmanship that seems to have taken a back seat to other aspects of business in today's world.

It also ensures Mom could smile politely with pride when ever she met up with Aunt Lucy.

What I mean by "less is better ". This aspect is most beneficial to the customer because it means " Savings ", here's how.

    - understand the basic physics of the task ;  you have a  particular environment with certain needs that will place certain demands on your time and resources, lets make it as easy and efficient as possible.

    - understand the characteristics and needs of the equipment ;  very smart people with very sharp pencils provided you with a product that has wonderful capabilities,

from power consumption levels that help reduce the size of your "carbon footprint"...

... to how user friendly it is!

The design of a system that uses the hose and tools for maximum utility helps to minimize and streamline the pipe system and can simplify the task for the user. Expert use of the proper materials and tools needed to craft a good pipe system, ensures that best performance is achieved  while minimizing the risk of clogging or malfunction.

Lets make that sucker work for you !!

   - understand the parameters set by the work environment ;  every job has a unique set of parameters from the construction style to the level of disturbance to your daily routine. By understanding these things we can reduce the number of inlets needed to cover the task at hand saving on install costs and the number of times you have to plug in to vacuum. This also reduces unnecessary pipe runs, fitting combinations and the need to work deeper into the structure.

This saves on the disturbance to your home and daily routine.

My math has it like this, save your money + save your time and effort = increased efficiency, preformance and value !  "Less is Better"!

Now the "be invisible" thing might sound kind of strange but it benefits the customer like this.

Installation Central will quietly and efficiently go about crafting a system that fits into your environment, blending in with the existing structure. This helps to minimize the disturbance to the structure as well as minimize the "footprint "  that the install may create. In most cases leaving the customer nothing to do but plug in and vacuum, and make comments like " you're done? I hardly knew you where here " and " looks like it was meant to be there ".  My goal here is to leave the customer with the feeling that their wonderful new vacuum has been there all along ( and that I had never been ) !   ... Mom would never hear the end of it if I left a big dirty footprint on Aunt Lucy's carpet !

Installing a central vac for the most part, could be accomplished by most people with a modest selection of tools. "There ya go system installed and it works ... for the most part".

In my travels I've come across some of these systems with their clog prone fitting combinations and their ...  lets call them "creative pipe runs"!

My personal favorite is the pipe that runs floor to ceiling through the living room with

a cute red ribbon wrapped around it like a barber shop pole ! ! !

Sure installing a central vacuum is not " rocket science " ... it's more like " transplant surgery"!

The surgeon, ...

... knowing where to cut, then with care and skill making the right incisions to open up the patient, install a new set of pipes and then close things up. Leaving the healthy patient with a fully functioning system and in the worst case,  a cute little scar and a good story to go with it !

We all know that when the need arises " to get creative " the proper tools in the hands of a professional can make a big difference!

The best central vac on the planet can easily be turned into a frustrating waste of time and money, just put it behind a poor install !!

Nobody likes to waste their time and money.

A good install is key to your vacuums performance. A good install helps to achieve a healthier living environment with better air quality. A good install can reach levels of efficiency and performance that will save you money, time and effort every time you use it for thousands of hours of trouble free service.

A good install will help make your system work for you ( just like the brochures say )...

letting you smile just like the pictures in the brochures!

The Company

Installation Central is fully insured and equipped to handle just about any contingency. The knowledge that over two decades of experience teaches allows us to design and provide the customer " a good install " across a wide spectrum of environments. From the most basic of jobs to the most challenging, through wood, steel, concrete or " D" ...  all of the above!

In residential, commercial and industrial applications, if a central vac can help you in your needs then it needs a good install to do it . Installation Central can help you design and install your vac so you get the most value and utility from it you can.

If after inspection of the task at hand, a central vac system turns into a "cant be done" situation, Installation Central can use its resources to help you find good alternative solutions.

The " Can't Be Done " kind of job quickly separates the "true installers" from the "also installed's"!

There are really only two reasons why an install  "can't be done"!

Either the task is beyond the operating parameters of the central vac, or the cost of the install is so prohibitive it becomes impractical to do so.Knowing where those boundaries actually are can be invaluable to the customer.

It can mean the difference between that big smiley experience the brochures describe

 and...

... that feeling you get when you realize you've just tossed hundreds of dollars   to the wind.

Thousands of successful installations  and hundreds of service calls to other systems suffering from "issues" along with dozens of different specialized applications  have given Installation Central a very good idea where those boundaries lie.

More than a few customers have stated, " we've had a couple of different companies in and they said  it can't be done " and yet there they are happily vacuuming away  and for those disappointed few  who can not rejoice in vacuuming, can rejoice, in knowing they have not wasted their time and money !!

For Installation Centrals customers there are no " can't be done " jobs only, " shouldn't be done " jobs!

"So hey, if you have enough money I'll put an inlet on the moon for ya, but I gotta tell ya  if we put the machine on the moon and the inlet valve on earth we can use the negative pressure up there to help increase vacuum reducing the cost to generate the amount of power needed  ... and the positive pressure down here to seemingly push the dirt into the hose making it easier and more efficient thereby ...",

... but seriously don't say it can't be done until you let Installation Central help you

determine how it could be done or why it should not !

There you have it, my nice little story.

I trust you found it informative and mildly entertaining as I stated earlier?

But the best part is yet to come !!

The Product

The best part of this whole story is that every Installation Central Customer enjoys the satisfaction of knowing that their system is installed with a level of quality and workmanship that will provide years of trouble free service. Performance and efficiency levels that help save time and money every time they use it!  Most of all the value of a good investment !

"The Proof is in the Pudding" as they say.
